On April 25, 2026, the premiere of the xianxia drama "Fate Chooses You" (佳偶天成, The Perfect Match) took place.

The leading roles in the series are played by Ren Jia Lun ("Love of Nirvana", "Love and Crown") and Wang He Run ("Footprints of Change", "The Lost National Treasure").

The drama consists of 40 episodes. Six episodes were released today on iQiyi and Tencent Video, and starting April 26, a new episode will be released daily at 6:00 PM.

The plot, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Shi Si Lang, tells a love story set against tragic circumstances. The main character, Lu Qian Qiao (played by Ren Jia Lun), is the heir of a ghost warrior clan. He bears the curse of the "five imperfections", which deprives him of basic human senses: he cannot distinguish colours, feels no taste or pain, his body is perpetually cold and thirsts for blood, and he knows no sleep. The only way for Lu Qian Qiao to become human is to endure five agonizing reincarnations, during which he must completely renew himself from skin and teeth to the heart.

The female lead, Xin Mei (played by Wang He Run), is a talented disciple of immortals. However, she is forced to seek a husband to rid herself of her own curse – the gift of bringing misfortune to her suitors.

The main characters enter into a sham marriage, making a kind of pact that later evolves into a story of mutual love and mutual salvation.

The drama is directed by Guo Hu, known for works such as "A Dream within a Dream" and "Mysterious Lotus Casebook".

The first day of broadcast demonstrated high audience interest on both platforms. Within the first two hours after the premiere, the drama's rating on Tencent reached 24,000 points, setting an absolute record for series in 2026. The paid content on iQiyi started with a score of 18,000 points.

The total number of pre-subscriptions on both platforms exceeded 5.35 million.

Viewers highly praised the fast pace of the narrative. Key plot twists, including the wedding, the execution, and the subsequent resurrection of the main character, are packed into the first episodes, allowing the audience to become engaged with the story more quickly. The action scenes and the ethno-rock style soundtrack were also appreciated. Criticism so far has been directed at the visual effects and at times less-than-clean sound mixing and colour correction.
