On April 7, 2026, production kicked off on the absurdist comedy "Crazy Towns" (我乐个神落村) in the picturesque city of Lijiang, Yunnan province.

The project is being co‑produced by Youku and the film studio Bad Monkey Pictures.

Huang Junjie ("Moonlit Order", "Fell Upon Me") takes the lead role of Chen Xiaochun – described as "the youngest operator of a Bitcoin mining farm" – a cool‑headed yet high‑energy character. To fully immerse himself in the role, the actor underwent a drastic image change, cropping his hair short in a look that sharply contrasts with his usual on‑screen persona.

Xing Fei ("Dark Night and Dawn", "Burning Flames") plays Zhang Chunna, the resident brain of a small town who, despite all obstacles, holds on to her dream of a better life.

Wang Jingchun ("Hovering Blade", "Let Wind Go By") portrays Dong Limao, a daydreamer whose clumsy attempts at success are set to become one of the show's main sources of comedy.

The drama's script follows an ambitious young man, Chen Xiaochun, who returns to his hometown – more of a village, really – and decides to revive his Bitcoin mining operation. In his quest for cheap electricity, he picks arguably the strangest location possible: his own ancestral tomb. That move eventually draws the attention of both local small‑time crooks and a serious criminal gang. On top of that, a mysterious gold disappearance throws the tiny town into total chaos.

The creators promise viewers a high‑octane mix of cutting‑edge technology and rural life, a clash between "countryside" thieves and professional criminals, and a string of wild plot twists.

Filming is taking place in the stunning locations around Lijiang, including high‑altitude pastures and hydroelectric power stations. The setting adds a unique flavour to the project and highlights the contrast between advanced technology and traditional ways of life.

A total of 12 episodes are planned. The drama is expected to premiere on Youku in 2027.
