The release date has been announced for the drama "Born with Luck" (Catching Thieves, 擒贼记, 低智商犯罪, Low IQ Crime), based on the novel of the same name by the renowned Chinese writer Zi Jin Chen ("Bad Kids", "The Long Night"), a specialist in plots about commercial warfare and criminal mysteries.

The 24-episode drama stars Tian Xi Wei ("Pursuit of Jade", "Guardians of the Dafeng") and Wang Xiao ("Dead to Rights", "The Knockout").

The series is positioned as the first comedy within iQiyi's detective content lineup. With its eccentric tone, the posters and trailers sharply contrast with the usual grim aesthetic of detective stories, which has sparked lively interest among subscribers. The number of pre-reservations has exceeded 1.1 million, putting the drama at the top of the most anticipated projects in the detective genre.

"Born with Luck" is a crime story about a series of tragicomic events in a small fictional provincial town called Sanjiangkou. Attempting to combine the incompatible, the creators turn a police investigation into a string of absurd curiosities.

Wang Xiao plays detective Zhang Yi Ang. His character, like a fish in muddy water, finds criminals more through absurd luck than professional skill.

Tian Xi Wei plays the role of young officer Li Qian. For Tian Xi Wei, known mostly for roles in costume dramas and rom-coms, this character represents an important milestone in her career. Her character is a brave young woman in a leather jacket who is not afraid of a fight.

Wang Chuan Jun also appears in the series. He plays businessman Zhou Rong, who pretends to be a philanthropist but is actually the mastermind behind the crimes. However, the main comedic tension is built around two groups of low-level criminals — ordinary robbers, petty car thieves and street swindlers who, acting separately, constantly get in each other's way as well as that of the top mobster. Ironically, it is their stupid antics and clumsy "attacks" on the investigation that lead to the most unexpected clues. These roles feature comedians Dong Bao Shi and Fang Hua, popular actor Lei Jia Yin, rapper Gem, and many other well-known faces. Much of the appeal seems to rest on playing a game of recognising real-life celebrities and unexpected funny situations involving them within the drama's plot.

In the finale, Zhang Yi Ang and his partner, thanks to their intelligence and courage, finally uncover the reason for their colleague's murder and bring the real criminal to justice.

The director of the drama is Liu Hai Bo, known for the detective dramas "Thirteen Years of Dust" and "How Dare You!?".

The series premieres on May 4, 2026, on iQiyi, as well as in the premium access segment on Migu Video.
