Filming on the fantasy adventure series «Red Moon Appeared» (从红月开始, Since the Red Moon) officially concluded on August 20, 2026.

The project was produced in collaboration with iQiyi and Bilibili, with Linghe Culture serving as co-producer and executive producer. The screenplay is based on the sci-fi novel of the same name, which has won multiple literary awards – in 2023 it received the Tianma Prize, and in 2025 it was honored with the Galaxy Award in the category «Best Online Sci-Fi for International Audiences». The series will consist of 36 episodes.

The lead roles are played by Guo Qilin («Joy of Life», «Escape from the Trilateral Slopes»), Jiang Peiyao («Archives: The Nanyang Mystery», «Forging Justice»), Chang Huasen («Veil of Shadows», «Blood River»), Chen Shu («Dongji Island», «Empty Gun»), and Tan Kai («Silent Tides», «Genuine Heroes»).

The story begins when the Moon suddenly turns crimson, triggering a global «mental contamination»: some humans mutate into monsters, while others awaken supernatural abilities. Humanity survives in a handful of walled city-states.

The protagonist, Lu Xin (Guo Qilin), is a modest office worker who gets caught up in a mysterious anomaly and, on the brink of death, unexpectedly manifests a paranormal gift. He is recruited into the «Special Pollution Clearance Department» – or simply the «Special Unit» – where he becomes an elite operative with the codename «Lone Wolf».

However, his power does not originate from within himself. He is constantly accompanied by three invisible family members: a younger sister (Li Linxi) who craves destruction, a mother (Chen Shu) radiating elegance and immense power, and an eternally irritable father (Tan Kai). These three entities are the source of his abilities, and Lu Xin can «borrow» their strength at any moment.

Alongside his new (real) teammates – the charismatic Yashcheritsa (Chang Huasen), mentor Chen Jing (Jiang Peiyao), and others – Lu Xin must uncover the nature of the threats and solve the mystery of his own memories, which may hold the key to the appearance of the Red Moon.

Principal photography began on May 8, 2026, and lasted just over three months. The set was kept under tight security, but throughout production, media and public attention focused heavily on lead actor Guo Qilin. 

To portray Lu Xin as a man worn down by life in a post-apocalyptic world, the actor – previously known for comedic roles – underwent an extreme transformation. According to press reports, even before filming started, he lost about 40 kilograms, dropping from 98 kg to roughly 60 kg. The dramatic change in his appearance sparked lively discussions on social media, with viewers saying he had become almost unrecognizable. The results were achieved through a strict diet and intensive training. His representatives confirmed that the actor was committed to accurately embodying the character, who, after prolonged exposure to stress and danger, required a look of both physical exhaustion and inner tension.

The production team also paid special attention to the visual design. According to the crew, extensive location shoots were organized and large-scale sets were built to faithfully capture the atmosphere of a world devastated by the Red Moon.

The series is currently in post-production. The premiere is scheduled for iQiyi and Bilibili, where early access is already available for booking, though the exact release date has not yet been
